The Boatyard of Edam
The Boatyards of Edam is a motif that Jason used frequently. Edam is a province of Northern Holland and the name originates from a Dam on the little river E or IJE .
The following images start with pictures done from nature and you can see the evolution of certain elements.
-In the center of the painting, the "red rake" comes from a bending tree over red tulips with a bird perched at the crest of the tree.
-To the right, the almond shape with a flag on top is from a sailboat seen headlong from the bow.
-To the left, is the bow of a boat seen from the side. Often it is behind the red rake.
As you become familiar with this motif you will see the red rake used in interiors symbolizing this series.
