Although Berger traveled to Europe and Mexico during the summers, he lived in the Boston area for most of his life. Berger did live in Portugal for a little over ten years partially with his second wife Estelle until she died and partially with his new wife, Leena Rekola.

Favorite U.S. landscapes came mostly from the Boston area.
